I was recently given a brand new dell laptop, because I am moving out and going to a University, so I needed my own computer. The computer I have at home is slow and filled with spyware, mostly due to my little sister and all the crap she downloads. I want to take really good care of my new laptop, so does anyone have any advice? What should I avoid (such as, kinds of sites)? What programs (free or inexpensive) should I use to protect the laptop? How can I maintain its speed? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

My parents never turn their 4 year old computer off and it's really really slow. Is that why the computer takes so long to load each page (sometimes it takes up to half an hour to load a web page)? The internet connection is fine as I use it as wireless on my laptop. They've just bought a new computer and haven't been turning it off. Will the same thing happen to this computer?

All my desktop icons go to the left side of my desktop. My wallpaper is designed in a certain way that some desktop icons need to be arranged so the image wouldn’t be blocked. How can I arrange my desktop icons anywhere in the screen?

I want to connect my old desktop computer to my laptop, so that I can access all of the file on both of the computers. Can I do this by taking the cord that connects my monitor to my desktop computer?
I've heard that I could take my ethernet cord and plug it into my laptop and my desktop, will that work?
I want to try to avoid wireless networking, but if that's my only option I'd like to hear about that one too.

I'm having trouble connecting my desktop computer to the internet. The wireless internet works fine, but when I go to plus in the computer through ethernet to the router, it won't work. I've plugged the desktop into the cable modem to see if it was the desktop having troubles, but it worked fine. Please help.

But what are the names of anti-virus malwares that claim to get rid of computer viruses when they're not doing anything? Instead, anti-virus rogue softwares are hacking and infecting the computer.

I currently have norten anti virus program installed on my computer but I want to remove it and install another anti virus program. What should I do first:

Remove the anti virus program and then install the new software

or

Install the new software then remove the old program?
